Average import price for frozen squid tubes is 22% lower than last year

Import of frozen squid tube, 49% lower year-on-year
In July 2021, 2,004 tons of frozen squid(tube) was imported, down 49 % from 3,929 tons a year earlier.
In July, the cumulative volume of imports was 11,517 tons, down 20% from 14,350 tons a year earlier.
From 2016 to 2021, the average import volume was 2,805 tons, down 29% from 2,004 tons in 2021.
The main exporters of frozen squid tubes are Chile, Peru, China and Argentina, with 45% (5,188 tons) of total imports from Chile, 37% (4,230 tons) were imported from Peru and 18% (2,021 tons) from China.
The average unit prices for each country were as follows: Argentina with USD 3.44 / kg (the highest but it is the illex), Chile with USD 1.43 / kg and Peru with USD 1.43 / kg the lowest although in the case of the latter two it is Loligo Gahi.
In July 2021, imports of frozen squid tube amounted to USD 3.16 million, down 60% from USD 7.99 million a year earlier.
The average import price in July is USD 1.58/kg, which is 22% lower than USD 2.03/kg last year.
